The location of the Bulgarian capital city has been always defined as historically unique and strategically important. Sofia is situated in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula, in the western part of Bulgaria in the valley of the same name. Only few are the world capital cities characterized by the geographical advantages of Sofia – average altitude of 550 m, presence of curative mineral springs with constant capacity, relatively short distance to the capitals of the Balkan countries. Since ancient times Sofia valley has represented a strategic cross point. The trade routes along the valleys of the rivers Iskar and Struma, which connect the Danube coast with the Aegean region and the Mediterranean, are meeting here. The ancient Roman way “via militaris (from Western Europe to the Middle-east and Far-east countries through Beograd – Skopje – Plovdiv – Istanbul) has had its deep influence on the economic, military and cultural development of Sofia region.
Ancient settlements occurred on the territory of the present Bulgarian capital city due to the natural geographic protection of Sofia valley - by the Balkan Mountain from north, and by the Lulin, Vitosha, Losenska and Plana mountains from south and south-west. In a serious inspiring study, dedicated to our capital, Al. Monedjikova describes the mountains near Sofia as “…astonishing with their beauty, respectful, reviving, rejuvenating, and elating”. The rich soils of the valley have ensured good conditions for the development of agriculture. The intensive cultural and trade contacts with other ancient civilizations have hastened the social, cultural and economic prosperity of the region. In general, the geo-political location of Sofia, although changing the aspects of its influence during the different historical periods, has always played a significant role in the historical destiny of the region. |

Its position close to the metro, the city center and one of the main boulevards Todor Alexandrov makes it easily accessible. Yet the presence of the park only across the Hisar Street ensures esthetic and peaceful environment. The east and the south sides of the building are facing the greenery.
